Working with our Physical Energy – Exercise

19th March 2012

walkingIf you work with energy regularly then supporting your physical body with any form of exercise is very beneficial. It enhances the ability of the body to ground and absorb the energy that you are connecting to. Generally it is about keeping things moving and getting the focus of your consciousness into your body as often as possible.

My view is that we each have to be physically active in a way that works for us – the marathon runners and extreme sports aficionados are in the minority. Some of us like those more challenging forms of exercise, some of prefer to go for a walk or to garden. It is about what works and what is appropriate for you.

Walking and Hiking: these are very grounding because they stimulate blood flow into the buttocks and legs, and this stimulates the base chakra.

Yoga: the postures that make up a yoga routine are designed to stimulate and support the natural movement of energy through your body. Yoga places particular emphasis on the spine. If you are considering taking up Yoga then do research which form of Yoga is appropriate for you – for example, Ashtanga was originally created to channel the excessive energy of teenage boys. It may therefore not be appropriate for everyone.  This is a good place to start if you want to find out more about the different styles of Yoga, and this site has some good guidance as well.

Tai Chi & Qi Gong: these gentle forms of exercise are great for any age and the express intention is the conscious movement of energy around the body. This site has a good introduction to Tai Chi and this site has some information about Qi Gong.
